Another view of the Sunday papers

The pictures below were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 4300. I used the New York Sunday Times as the subject matter and manipulated the DOF. They were shot in colour, but the paper was mainly black and white. Shooting in colour seemed to add a great depth and emotion to the shots.

Thursday 14th August 2003 - New York Blackout

This was taken on Park Avenue South somewhere between Midtown and Tribeca. The mood on the street was calm but crazy. There were so many people everywhere. Crazy time in New York.

The world we walk on
We often photograph that which we see at eye level. I am also interested in what we don't usually see. Living in New York, there is a whole other "earth" under us. It might not be pretty, but it's just as beautiful.

Reported today on the BBC site:

Stalkers

And some psychologists question whether what has been dubbed celebrity worship syndrome is such a good thing.

They suggest it could be an indication that individuals find it easier to form imaginary relationships with the famous than with normal people - or that such behaviours are a sign of depression or anxiety.

The extreme end of celebrity worship involves obsessional and potentially dangerous stalking where people believe they have to be close to their idols.

But experts say these people make up just a small proportion of celebrity worshippers.

James Houran, a psychologist from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, has helped devise the Celebrity Attitude Scale, which measures people's interest in celebrities.

He said: "Just worshipping a celebrity does not make you dysfunctional.

"But it does put you at risk of being so.

"There is this progression of behaviours, and if you start, we don't know what's going to stop you."

mmm...... so everyone playing into the celebrity worshiping game are mad? And they needed professionals to tell them that.
